Traditional Thomas Crapper hand basin in a bathroom installation, West Malling, Kent

Charming bathroom in a charming home

This customer lives in a converted house in West Malling, Kent, with bags of character. Both he and his wife are delighted with the transformation of their bathroom, which has been sympathetically designed to suit the rest of their home.

Working closely with Potts Ltd, we installed a bathroom full of traditional fixtures, including an ultra-traditional Victorian-style Thomas Crapper toilet that sits perfectly within the character of the home. Despite being a relatively small room, careful planning meant we could fit everything in without it feeling cramped.

The walls were finished with small tiles to suit the period style. Small tiles are deceptively challenging to work with – every one has to line up precisely – and with so many more of them it's painstaking work. The end result is well worth the effort though, giving a wonderful, authentic finish.

The customer asked us to keep the existing floor tiles, which ran throughout the ground floor, so these were carefully protected during the work and the grout touched in towards the end.

Before any work began, Potts Ltd produced a 3D render of the proposed bathroom. This, together with a site visit, is a free service they offer – and as you can see from the preliminary design alongside the finished room, it shows just how closely the final installation can match the original vision and concept.
