Traditional kitchen, Goudhurst, Kent

Stunning hand painted kitchen units with corian worktop

We removed the existing kitchen, Rayburn cooker and quarry floor tiles from this kitchen/dining room in Goudhurst, Kent, and installed this beautiful new kitchen, designed and supplied by Potts Ltd.

Being an older property, there was barely a straight line or a true right angle anywhere in the room – the walls and floor were all over the place. This is exactly the kind of challenge that separates a bespoke kitchen from an off-the-shelf one: every unit had to be adjusted to fit the quirks of the space. We started by levelling the floor and fitting porcelain floor tiles, giving us a sound, true base on which to build.

The kitchen is a Mark IV bespoke range, chosen for its quality and the flexibility to work around an irregular room like this. Taking the age of the property into account, the design incorporates matching dresser-style freestanding units that look entirely at home in the setting.

It's complemented by a Bora induction hob with a clever integrated down-draught extractor – drawing steam and odours straight down at the hob rather than up to an overhead hood – along with Corian worktops and matching up-stands, giving a modern twist on a very traditional design.

The whole project was completed in around three weeks, which also included the installation of a small cloakroom situated close to the kitchen.
